Shakespeare...

Today I discovered why I haven't taken a Shakespeare class in over two years. It's because it is next to impossible to read, at least coherently. Here's how I started on my quest to reading The Taming of the Shrew.

First I read the character list.
Then started into the actual text.
Consulted Sparknotes.
Tried the text again.
Went to the dumbed down Sparknotes version of the character list.
Once again tried the text.
Sparknotes.
Finished the introduction and first act.

Needless to say this is going to be the most time consuming class of my life. If anyone has any tips for reading Shakespeare I would be eternally grateful.

And as a comedic side note, all I can ever think about in that class is a quote from Stardust- "My crew is thinking Shake Spear, where I'm thinking 18th century writer."

First Day of School!

Another Semester, another list :) Enjoy.

I think the sidewalks should be set up like roads, with a bike/longboard/skateboard lane and a fast lane and signs that say "slow traffic keep right." I also think it should be socially acceptable to make honking noises if someone cuts you of while walking and then continues to walk at a snails pace in freezing weather, and then makes it impossible to get around them. I'm just saying is all.

Today was a day where I didn't take offense to the fact that a girl asked me if she had met me before. I laughed and said "We've had a couple of classes together and we were in a group together for a project before." I didn't feel as bad cause I didn't remember her name.

Service Learning. I've decided that this is an ingenious program. I've done it before in a class last year and its great. You get class credit while helping some aspect of the community. I really like that cause since high school I've been a bit service deprived. All three years of high school I was up to my neck in every and any service project that Joshua Bagley could get his hands on, and since then I've missed being so submerged. I'm excited to do some service learning this semester.

Even if people walk slow in freezing cold Logan, I still love it here. The campus, the atmosphere I'm a little giddy over it :)

My life is full of awkward situations. And on a scale of one to ten on how well I handle those situations (ten being very well, and 1 being very poorly) I usually end up between -2 or 0. Today, however, I ran into a split second, potentially very awkward situation and I give myself at least a 7. Kudos to me for breaking a streak of awkward idiotness for an entire thirty seconds.

I've recently decided that being a college student means being pretty much a selfish being.** You don't have to plan around anyone else and you really don't even have to tell anyone what you're doing.

To re-emphasize what has already been stated at least 200 times, I am an English nerd. I sat in my Linguistics class, practically on the edge of my seat. I'm really excited about that one, a class just about words. How they sound, how you use them, and how they can work for you. If this isn't love, I don't know what is.

I hope this semester is as enjoyable as I'm anticipating it to be, and I also hope I don't die in my attempt to take a million classes (ok not really a million, but more than I've taken before.) At any rate, Happy First Day of Sprig Semester 2010!

**When I first wrote this sentence I wrote "... being a college stupid." Freudian slip? I think yes.

The Zest of Life!

Today in a talk given in a church meeting of mine, I learned that hobbies are the zest of life. One example that was given for a hobby was writing. As I thought about the word 'zest' a funny memory popped into my head.

It's tradition in my family to make orange rolls. These are similar to cinnamon rolls, but instead of cinnamon you put orange zest in the middle. A few days before Christmas, a young family came over to our house and we had dinner. Afterwords we ate orange rolls. The oldest of the young family scrunched his nose and stated firmly "I think you put too much zest in this, it turned them quite bitter." The way he said it made me laugh, but he was right. That batch of orange rolls didn't turn out very well; they had too much zest. However, with just the right amount of zest these rolls are amazing.

So, here is to my zest in life. Writing, not too much, but not too little :)

Movies That I Thought Were Going to be Cool so I Saw Them But They Turned Out to be Stupid and Now I'm Bitter

I decided to let my little brother write this because it made me laugh. So, have at it, Gavin.
(In order of suckiness)
1- Journey to the Center of the Earth
Dear Brandon Fraisier,
Please, for the love of your *cough*fans, stop making movies. Forever.
2- Eragon
Basically the worst 'book-to-movie' movie ever. Barf.
3- Knowing
GAAAHHHH! Plot...? Nicolas Cage...? Aliens...? Whatever.
4- Avatar
Hey, guys! We should make a multi-billion dollar, three-hour-long movie out of CGI with no plotline! Okay!

EDITOR'S NOTE: Please... Take this with a grain of rice. *wink*

Inspiration!

I feel like I've neglected my blog a lot. A lot a lot, but yesterday as I was sitting in my sisters house, waiting for her kids to wake up so I could do some babysitting I wrote down some stuff on my phone (as I did I decided that I need a good notepad to reside in my purse, there's something good about writing stuff down versus texting it out... either way I guess it gets recorded). So I have something in the works. It's not yet perfected (and probably never will be) but I think it'll be good. Just so you, my faithful reader, know that just because it's the break I am not taking too big of a break from writing. Woot for writing!

Where are you blogging?

Why can't I find you? Why have you gone away?...

I feel like I've lost the Spirit of Blogging. I can't quite put my finger on why though. Maybe my head isn't screwed on just right, or maybe my shoes are too tight... or maybe, just maybe I have nothing to write! (hehe). So here I sit, wondering, just as Cindy Lou Who... Does this mean blogging changes too?

Teeth of Wisdom?

Yesterday an oral surgeon removed these from my face. All four of them. Instead of doing anything funny, I freaked my mom out by crying all the way home. And not just crying, bawling. Poor mom. So the last twenty four hours has consisted of drugs, sleeping, pudding, and then more drugs. So far my favorite part was this morning when my mom came to check on me. She looked at me and said "Oh, you're looking more like my old Meggie" my response "You mean less pale and more annoyed?" She laughed and poked my cheek. Me "Oh right, you mean twelve year old fat Megan. Perfect." I suppose I haven't iced my face enough. Shoot.

Also, this kinda sucks. It's an interesting combination of whiney, cry-y, angry, hurty, nauseated-y, hungry, druggy, and sleepy.
