The Zest of Life!

Today in a talk given in a church meeting of mine, I learned that hobbies are the zest of life. One example that was given for a hobby was writing. As I thought about the word 'zest' a funny memory popped into my head.

It's tradition in my family to make orange rolls. These are similar to cinnamon rolls, but instead of cinnamon you put orange zest in the middle. A few days before Christmas, a young family came over to our house and we had dinner. Afterwords we ate orange rolls. The oldest of the young family scrunched his nose and stated firmly "I think you put too much zest in this, it turned them quite bitter." The way he said it made me laugh, but he was right. That batch of orange rolls didn't turn out very well; they had too much zest. However, with just the right amount of zest these rolls are amazing.

So, here is to my zest in life. Writing, not too much, but not too little :)

Movies That I Thought Were Going to be Cool so I Saw Them But They Turned Out to be Stupid and Now I'm Bitter

I decided to let my little brother write this because it made me laugh. So, have at it, Gavin.
(In order of suckiness)
1- Journey to the Center of the Earth
Dear Brandon Fraisier,
Please, for the love of your *cough*fans, stop making movies. Forever.
2- Eragon
Basically the worst 'book-to-movie' movie ever. Barf.
3- Knowing
GAAAHHHH! Plot...? Nicolas Cage...? Aliens...? Whatever.
4- Avatar
Hey, guys! We should make a multi-billion dollar, three-hour-long movie out of CGI with no plotline! Okay!

EDITOR'S NOTE: Please... Take this with a grain of rice. *wink*

Inspiration!

I feel like I've neglected my blog a lot. A lot a lot, but yesterday as I was sitting in my sisters house, waiting for her kids to wake up so I could do some babysitting I wrote down some stuff on my phone (as I did I decided that I need a good notepad to reside in my purse, there's something good about writing stuff down versus texting it out... either way I guess it gets recorded). So I have something in the works. It's not yet perfected (and probably never will be) but I think it'll be good. Just so you, my faithful reader, know that just because it's the break I am not taking too big of a break from writing. Woot for writing!

Where are you blogging?

Why can't I find you? Why have you gone away?...

I feel like I've lost the Spirit of Blogging. I can't quite put my finger on why though. Maybe my head isn't screwed on just right, or maybe my shoes are too tight... or maybe, just maybe I have nothing to write! (hehe). So here I sit, wondering, just as Cindy Lou Who... Does this mean blogging changes too?

Teeth of Wisdom?

Yesterday an oral surgeon removed these from my face. All four of them. Instead of doing anything funny, I freaked my mom out by crying all the way home. And not just crying, bawling. Poor mom. So the last twenty four hours has consisted of drugs, sleeping, pudding, and then more drugs. So far my favorite part was this morning when my mom came to check on me. She looked at me and said "Oh, you're looking more like my old Meggie" my response "You mean less pale and more annoyed?" She laughed and poked my cheek. Me "Oh right, you mean twelve year old fat Megan. Perfect." I suppose I haven't iced my face enough. Shoot.

Also, this kinda sucks. It's an interesting combination of whiney, cry-y, angry, hurty, nauseated-y, hungry, druggy, and sleepy.

Oh Blogging... How I've Missed You

Today, as I frantically tried in every way to avoid studying for my psychology test, I realized that I have not blogged in ten million years. This makes me sad. So today I blog. I remembered that I wrote about my flying experience. These are a few of my scribbled notes about planes and flying in them. :)

Flying:
-First thing, Brian Regan reminded me of the first half hour of being in the airport.
-Then getting on the plane. Southwest boards by ABC. Of course I'm in 30 C, on a plane that is 100% full. I know I'm getting a seat in the middle, but I can't help but pray that I'll be sitting next to two petite woman who both fall asleep listening to their ipods; however, I have no such luck. As I make my way to the back of the plane I realize that even the middle spots are becoming sparse. And I look to my right. Big man, smiling right at me is what my eye meets. And then, he points to the seat next to him and giggles. The only way I can describe this man is Kevin from The Office with a lot of curly hair. In all my awkwardness I politely (or painfully) smile and nod and look away. Look anywhere, trying to find any other spot on the plane. Again, no such luck. The aforementioned large man giggles as I make my way to the middle seat. And then proceeds to make polite small talk with me. Most awkward moment of my entire life up to this point.
-As I waited for the OK to put in my ipod and end the small talk, I overheard a few adorable things from the two little kids in front of me. Some of the things I heard from the row ahead...
"This is the earth!"
"We're there!" (After being on the plane for about five minutes.)
"Are we there yet?"
-Take off. Pretty much the coolest feeling ever.
-Flying into a cloud. It's scary and awesome and amazing all at once.
-Mountains, being able to see the whole thing :)

A couple of gems from the flight attendant (who I'm pretty sure was gay)
-The button with the light bulb... if you push that it turns it on. Button with the flight attendant, however, will not turn on the flight attendant.
-Wear your seat belt low and securely on your waste just like I wear my spedo at the beach.

-The aforementioned little girl's little brother sticking his head in between the seats, then climbing up and saying "ight!" Which can only be interpreted as "light." It made me smile and think of my little nephew.
-GUM! Never forget gum on an airplane. That's what they should hand out instead of the salty nuts.
-If you're bored enough and happen to be sitting next to the window, it's cool to see the city lights. Especially flying out of Las Vegas :)
-I always end up sitting next to the wing and I dunno why, but I like it.
-At one point I wrote down that the people that don't like riding on an airplane are the same people that don't like roller coasters. Or happiness. Hehe I like airplanes.

So this was my flying experience. I really like flying and technology blows my mind :)

Oh Daddy-O!

Here are a few pictures from my most recent adventure. I flew down to Texas to visit my dad who has been working there for nearly a year and a half. I needed a vacation and the very first thing that came to my mind was my dad in Lack Jackson, Texas.

I was thinking about it as my dad and I frantically tried to fit in every possible thing and I came to the conclusion that I have a ton of memories of my dad and I at zoos and galleries and other field-trip esque places. You might ask why. Well it's because I'm pretty sure my dad was there for 100% of my field trips from grade K-10. And it only goes to 10 because I didn't really go on field trips in high school - I went on tour and I bet my dad would have been to those in a heartbeat as well if finances had allowed. Anyway, my point being that my dad was always there. Perpetually. And I loved it. I never felt like he was overbearing and my friends generally felt comfortable around him (or at least they seemed to be, and they never said anything otherwise). What I'm trying to say is a great big thank you to my dad. For always being there pops. I love you.
